It is a historic milestone for Vietnamese women's volleyball, and simultaneously a milestone in the load history of the players themselves.
In Europe, a top club plays 55 to 65 matches a season, but they have three things most Vietnamese volleyball clubs do not: a full-time sports physician, a sensor system recording every landing, and a genuine rest week between competitions.
In Vietnam, most clubs have a part-time medical officer, a bag of ice, and a bench. Female players travel by coach between provinces, sleep in hotels, eat team canteen food, and train in the morning before an evening match. Structurally, that is not a failure of spirit. Returning early is only half the story. The other half is training. A player cleared to take the court is not the same as a player cleared to absorb 70 landings a match again. Tissue healed in the gym at 40 percent load is not healed at 100 percent load. The gap between those two levels is usually ignored in the most important week of the season.
And there is a reason that gap gets ignored, and the reason is not medical. The decision to field a player is an administrative and commercial one. A club that rests its star loses points, loses crowds, loses sponsors. A coach who rests his star gets asked why. Nobody gets asked why a knee had to carry three extra weeks.
Tran Dinh Trong is a lesson I will never write as advice. I only write it as a procedure: if nobody is responsible for measuring load, the final responsible party will always be the connective tissue.
